May, 2009 marks the 114th Irrigation Festival
Welcome to the website for the 114th Sequim Irrigation Festival, which was held May 2nd - 10th, 2009. Our festival celebrates the initiation, development and support of the irrigation ditches which brought water to the once dry prairies of Sequim. This year we had more events and more community involvement than ever, making it a spectacular festival. The theme for the 2009 festival is "Sequim: A Magical Place" The 2010 Irrigation Festival will be held on Saturday, May 1st through Sunday, May 9th. Watch this site for more information about next year's festival. 2010 will be the 115th festival and more exciting than ever. |

Picture a woodland area with trees and a lush undergrowth of bushes and ferns, where the trees protect the magical people beneath its many branches. Trees, such as the Garry Oak trees, show a uniqueness and longevity that is similar to our town and community. The magic of the forest extends to the Sequim Dungeness Valley by the flowing rivers, streams and irrigation ditches. This magic also inhabits the people of the area which makes Sequim such a magical place. |

The 114th Sequim Irrigation Festival will take place May 2 - 10, 2009 in downtown Sequim. The theme for the 2009 festival is "Sequim - A Magical Place", and planning is already underway. The event dates can be found within the Events menu and Events Page. The Irrigation Festival has always been about community, and with the closing of the Hood Canal Bridge during the festival, we will be encouraging even more community involvement in all the events next year. So, be thinking about creating a float and walking the parade route with it or getting your co-workers or friends together and forming a drill team. If you have been wanting to test the selling of your crafts or art, think about getting a booth at the Arts and Crafts fair. Do you have that classic car just sitting in the garage? Think about bringing it out for the Car Parade and/or Car Show. We will be putting some articles together about how you can become a part of the festival, so watch our website and the newspapers. With the Hood Canal Bridge closure beginning May 1, 2009, you may need to plan your route to get to Sequim. Visit the Department of Transportation Hood Canal Bridge Closure site for more information. Also, check out the No Bridge, No Problem site for the North Olympic Peninsula for travel information and deals.
