We are so proud to be hosting the 115th Irrigation Festival with the citizens of the Sequim and the Dungeness Valley, where we celebrate the irrigation water being mixed with the rich soil to produce the crops vital to the success of our large farming area. As citizens of this valley we all experience the love of this paradise. We salute and do this with pride and dedication to maintain our small town atmosphere. The great gift of water pulls us together in celebration during the first full week in May for the past 115 years. No festival of this magnitude could be produced without the year-round hard work of the Festival Board of Directors and the hundred-plus volunteers, who’s helping hands do the real work of producing all of the events that make up this magnificent festival. We hope you will enjoy your festival. Invite friends and family that may have moved away to come back and enjoy this great community. My wife, Tawana, and I want to take this time to send out a special “Thank You” to everyone for letting us be a part of this wonderful festival. Please enjoy your festival, it is a true gem to be enjoyed to its fullest. We encourage you to take home a souvenir pin, button, t-shirt or sweatshirt to remember your time with us. Festival merchandise is available at the Sequim Chamber of Commerce Visitor Information Center and area stores. Thank you for sharing time with us. Joe Borden The planning and organizing for the Sequim Irrigation Festival takes place all year long. Many different people, organizations and businesses are necessary to make it come together. Planning for all the events as well as other support activities happen all year long. You can learn more about what it takes to put the festival on within the pages in this section. The people, organizations and businesses to make it happen are talked about in more detail within the Festival Committee, Sponsors and Volunteer! pages. Festival CommitteeA group of dedicated volunteers make up the Festival Committee. 2009 is the 5th year that Joe Borden has been the Festival Chairman. But it takes quite a few people to help him plan and organize the festival and all its supporting functions. This page talks more about the Festival Committee. SponsorsIndividuals and businesses within the Sequim contribute money, goods and services to help put on the festival. We cannot put on the level of festival that we do without this help. VolunteersHundreds of volunteers are necessary to make the festival happen. As the festival approaches many of the events have volunteer needs. This page discusses the role of the volunteer within the festival. Design ContestThe planning for the next year's festival begins almost as soon as the festival for the year ends. The first activity to happen is the design contest, which calls for the design of the next year's logo design as well as the button design. |
