Princess Persephone Nelson

Sponsor: The Blooming Brush

Since she was a young child Persephone Nelson has admired Irrigation Festival royalty, and she is “looking forward to being an ambassador for Sequim”.  Being a good role model and someone that young people look up to is important to Persephone, both as a member of the Royalty, and in everything she plans for her future.

Her mother was so taken with the story of the Greek Goddess of Spring and Summer that she named her daughter Persephone.  As a 17 year old junior at Sequim High School, Persephone lives with her parents, Joe and Teresa Gordon, where they have lots of chickens, a goose, a dog and 2 cats.  She plans to attend college to get a masters degree in physical education, and then teach at the high school level.

Persephone is involved with Interact, Honor Society and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).  Persephone participates in a wide range of activities, includes singing, dancing, acting and sports, where she is on the swim and track teams, plays basketball, and is captain of her cheerleading squad.  She plays the trumpet on the Sequim High School marching and jazz bands.

She is looking forward to developing a close relationship with the rest of the royalty court, and experiencing all the towns they will visit.  She thinks there is a lot to learn and is excited to see what happens over the next year.
