Volunteer

The Sequim Irrigation Festival is staffed entirely with volunteers. Over a hundred people are involved in the making of the Irrigation Festival. Volunteer activities range from large commitments such as being on the Board of Directors and planning and coordinating the festival events, to small commitments such as helping to setup or decorate an event, taking tickets at an event, etc.

As the festival approaches many of the events have volunteer needs. If you are interested in volunteering for a particular event you can learn more about the event by going to that page.

Irrigation Festival Committee: The Sequim Irrigation Festival Board meets on the 1st Wednesday of every month at 4:30 at the Paradise restaurant on Sequim Avenue in Sequim.  All members and guests are welcome to attend Board meetings.  Full membership meetings are at 6 pm on the 1st Wednesday of most months, taking short summer and winter breaks.  Beginning in February the committee meets monthly through April.  Dinner is at 6pm (optional) and the meeting starts at 6:00pm. • Supporting the float at parades, etc.

Helping on a festival committee with specific aspects of the planning and preparation:

The planning for the Irrigation Festival is year round, with the majority of the planning work from January through April. Most of the events have a committee of people that work together to define the activities of the event and arrange for them to take place. These activities vary by event. Examples include:

  • Letter writing
  • Working with computers
  • Calling people and businesses to arrange for donations and/or sponsorship
  • Planning and working through selecting and scheduling entertainment and vendors
  • Making decorations
  • And more

Providing support for the many functions that happen throughout the year:

There are a number of supporting activities that are needed throughout the year to put on the Irrigation Festival. These include

  • Designing and constructing the float,
  • Marketing, public relations, and advertising,
  • Bookkeeping,
  • Finding sponsors,
  • Grant writing,
  • Updating the website and social media, etc.

If you have experience and/or a desire to help with these supporting activities, please contact the Festival Director. You may want to attend a monthly Festival Committee meeting to meet the Festival Committee Chairs and other supporting volunteers.

Leading a festival committee as it goes through the planning and preparation for the event and being a part of the Festival Committee:

There are a number of events and supporting activities that need to have someone who will lead a team as it goes through the planning and preparation.

  • Each event has a committee chair that directs the planning and preparation for their event.
  • Most of these chairs have a committee that they work with.
